A Mesmerising Insight of the City of Taupo

City of Taupo and Lake Taupo rank amongst the most beautiful landscapes of New Zealand and provide tourists with the much loved ‘picture postcard’ views. Located at about 45 minutes of driving distance from Rotorua and 3 hours away from Auckland, the city of Taupo is noted for its serene environs, slow pace of life and the admirable natural features of its Lake. The lake fringes the quaint town of Turangi on the other side and serves as the base camp for adventure lovers-- desirous of snow skiing at Tongariro National Park or trekking on the natural trails beyond.

Just like Rotorua, Taupo also has many volcanic activities and formations in its vicinity. While the Wairakei Reserve and Orakei Korako are known for their thermal activity, other areas in the vicinity are known for their silica terraces and unique geographical features. One of the most interesting highlights of Taupo is that the origin of the entire region on North Island is attributed to its giant volcanic eruption that led to the formation of the Lake Taupo, the biggest volcanic ‘caldera’ of NZ. The serene waters of Lake Taupo hide the thermal manifestations (fumaroles or cracks) at the bottom and lure tourists with their beauty and aquatic activities alike.
