A Challenging Trip to Mount Eden

A former fortified hill for Maori settlements, Mount Eden in Auckland is now a popular tourist spot. Known for its great views, this hill is known as the highest non-man made point in all of Auckland. In addition to its rich cultural past, the hill attracts thousands of people due to the fact that it is also a dormant volcano. It is the volcano that is more or less the focus on the mountain. With a 165 feet deep crater, the awe inspiring attraction draws a lot of locals and tourists every year. The last known time the volcano erupted was about 60,000 years ago.

Getting to Mount Eden

A large number of tourists choose to stretch their legs and scale the hill from the side. This is a great way to get some excellent views of the city down under. However, a convenient way to get to the summit is to opt for a car hire in Auckland. Drive via the one way ring road and head to the top where you will be able to find ample parking space.

Fun Things to Do on Mount Eden

If you are visiting during the winter, you will find it challenging to hike up the muddy and slippery hill side. However, there are a variety of other things you can do while you are visiting. For instance, you can organise a picnic with your travel group in the reserve. You can head to the amphitheater that is located on the base of the hill. Here, you can find plenty of space to play catch or set up a picnic brunch. In addition to this, there are a number of tracks that lead you to the playground. Here, you will find public toilets, a drinking fountain and a range of other activities and amenities for your day.
