The Queenstown Winter Festival - No Better Time to Visit!

I had the fortune of making a trip to Queenstown last month and the vibrancy of the atmosphere created cannot be overstated! Considered one of the biggest winter celebrations in the Southern Hemisphere, the Queenstown Winter Festival according to me, is the best time to soak in the culture and have some truly unique travel experiences!

Complete with some of the most happening street parties, firework displays, performances, competitions and excellent options for family fun in the mountains, visiting Queenstown with my family during this time of the year was probably the smartest decision I have made in awhile.

Getting Around Queenstown during the Festival
Having read about the possibilities of mayhem associated with 45,000 people celebrating the arrival of winter, my family and I decided to drive into Queenstown in a rental. With a car rental in Queenstown, we were able to make it to most of the events at our own pace and convenience without having to rely on the crowded public transport system.

The Fabulous Events
We spent 5 days in the city celebrating the 40th year of this festival and were mesmerized with all the fun events that were lined up all through the days. With spectacular performances by comedians such as Jeremy Corbett at the NZ Comedy Gala; and a chance to see some quirky events such as the airport suitcase race up at the Coronet Peak were truly memorable experiences. My partner and I even signed up for the night skiing event which I must say was one of the most exhilarating experiences of our lives!

During our few days in the city, we had a unique chance to delve into the local sights, sounds and culture. There is no better time to visit the city than during the Winter Festival. It is during these events that you will get a unique opportunity to mingle with the locals, taste their local foods and venture into the history of the city.

We for one cannot wait to come back next year and relive the fervour and zest that Queenstown so excitedly represents for the winter!
